In 1990 and 1991, around the time of Twenty Years
Of Dirt, Robert Koenig of Mineola, NY published four issues of
The Nitty Gritty Gazette, a 20-page mimeographed fanzine that was sold
through the mail and from small neighborhood record and music shops.
The issues below have
been converted from the paper copies, attempting to maintain the precise
look of the originals in terms of
size, layout, color, and font. To improve readability, all text has been
optically-recognized; in some cases,
particularly Issue #3, the original mimeographed newspaper and magazine
|
articles were in too small a font and in too rough shape to be
automatically converted, and in these cases the articles have been manually
retyped.
Depending on your monitor size and settings,
some articles may be impossible to read on the screen; in these cases, a
Microsoft Word version of the article may be downloaded. Look for the link
to the document just below the page (between the "previous / next
page" links).
Issue #4 was originally typeset using a Script 12-Point Monospace
printwheel. This font is rare in the world of web typography, and so
I have
|
coded the issue so that the affected pages appear in Courier on most
computer screens. If you would like to view the issue as it was
originally typeset, I have made a Script 12-Point Bitstream Windows TrueType font available.
Click here to download the font file and
save it to a local spot on your drive; then go to "Start / Settings / Control Panel," and click "Fonts." From the Fonts window,
click "File / Install new font..." to install it.
These issues were purchased at the now-defunct Titus Oaks Records
in Hicksville, except Issue #2 directly from Koenig.
